About the Event

Eia  ke Kāhea!! Ka Makahiki 'Aha Pule 'Āina Holo will return this year  across Hawai'i Island!  A 4 day ceremonial relay prayer run for the  'Āina and our communities dedicated to Lono and aligned with the opening  of the Makahiki season. Makahiki traditions are old, but the run is  new, this is the 10th year, inspired by the ancestral run of Native  Americans who shared their story of cultural revival in modern times.   They will be here again on this Makahiki run, from various tribes across  the continent, as well as members of the Tasuki Run of Japan, bringing  their spirit staffs to join Lono to connect to this land and inspire the  people.

Join for the whole  journey or just a portion in your area. All ages and abilities welcome.  Participate by Running, Cheering, Driving, Ceremony, Dance, making food  for each dayʻs meals (Ai Pono, Ai Local), leis, personal offerings, or  presence of Aloha. If you are able bodied, come dedicate your energy to  this spiritual mission and partake in this combined prayer as Kukini,  prayer runners.

WE  RUN so our sweat feeds the earth as the coming rains. WE RUN so our  hard breath of endurance breathes life to our lā'au ohana as the breath  Hā ola to us. WE RUN to remind ourselves, our ohana, our community, our  lāhui, the World that the health of our `Āina IS our LIFE!!! That we  must do better by the earth, that we must Stop turning a blind eye to  the hana`ino. We must do better for the health of ourselves.
