An Eve of Eastern Fusion with Donya Reeza & Māz Ze Tār

Donya Reeza is a collective of musicans dedicated to the study of Indian, Greek,  Persian, and Turkish traditional music. Co-led by Alexander Karvelas and  Mazyar Karandish, Donya Reeza breaths life into the traditonal  repertoires of these cultures, celebrating their distinct roots, weaving  their common threads and inspiring diverse audiences to hold their  enduring beauty.

Māz Ze Tār is a musical fusion project by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Maz  Karandish. This project was propelled by the vision of fusing  traditional Eastern music with modern electronic composition as a form  of cultural preservation.  Mah Ze Tar brings the haunting melodies of  ancient songs to life with a new and exciting presentation featuring an  instrument of his own design called the Mah Ze Tar. These instruments  and rich vocal layers are fused with subtle yet colorful electronic  pads, sub-bass, and dynamic uplifters and drops. These songs are a  journey into the ancient past while holding space for the wonders of the  future.

Maz Karandish is a Devotee of music- A  well traveled vocalist & multi-instrumentalist covering grounds  from Rāga, Maqām, and Dastgāh to Harmony, Jazz, and Opera. Maz feels  deeply connected to the ancient musical traditions of the east that he  began learning from a very young age. As an Ethnomusicologist and a  practicing Psychologist, he’s come to recognize that people in his  generation have an easier time engaging with traditional music when it’s  integrated with familiar rhythmic and sonic environments- thus forming  his vision of preserving cultural music through fusion-oriented avenues.  Maz devotes his musical time to exploring the possible weaving of  Indian, Persian, Greek and Turkish music with modern soundscapes. He’s  currently most interested in the integration of Indian Dhrupad and  Persian Tahrir singing with electronic composition. Maz is an active  performing member of Balkan Bump, has significant musical collaborations  with Desert Dwellers, David Starfire, Adham Shaikh, Jef Stott, Morillo,  Akriza, Nyrus, Nahlith and many others.
